Want to create more video content? Check out Descript
this is truly the lazy marketer's secret weapon
I've been putting off telling you about this for a while, but it's time to spill one of my best productivity secrets.
If you've been wondering how I manage to create weekly YouTube videos while running a consulting business and still having something resembling a life, this is it.
I used to hate video editing, but now I don’t mind it at all (since I discovered Descript).
Why you need to create video content in 2025
First, let's address the elephant in the room: if you're in marketing and not creating video content, you're leaving money on the table (and you’re getting left behind).
Creating and publishing video content is one of the best ways you can build trust for your (personal) brand. And in the AI-era, trust-building is one of the most important things we, as marketers, MUST focus on.
I resisted this for years, but since finally starting last year (and now, after creating nearly 50 videos), I've realized it's not as intimidating as I initially thought.
You just have to get over the internal blockers that are holding you back and just get started.
My AI editing workflow that takes under an hour
With video content, the biggest time-sink isn't recording - it’s editing.
And here's how I use Descript to edit videos in under an hour:
Record my video (either directly in Descript or upload footage)
Let AI transcribe everything (this happens automatically)
Remove filler words with one click (gets rid of all my "ums" and "likes")
Shorten awkward pauses (I set gaps longer than 0.3 seconds to shrink to 0.2 seconds)
Remove retakes (Pro tip: When recording, always start your retakes with the same words so AI can spot them easily)
Add chapters automatically for YouTube timestamps
Most of these edits happen with just a couple of clicks.
Beyond basic editing
Descript has some other features cool features too:
Eye contact correction - If you're reading from a script and not looking directly at the camera, this feature makes it look like you are.
Background removal - No green screen needed.
Easy clip creation - I can quickly make short-form clips from my longer videos.
Scene changes - Add smooth transitions between different layouts
What it costs (and is it worth it?)
I'm using the $24/month plan, but there's a free version you can try first to see if it works for you. For me, the time savings alone make it worthwhile - I'm creating content I simply wouldn't have the bandwidth to make otherwise.
This tool has been the best productivity hack for my content creation process. I'm not particularly talented at video editing, but Descript makes me look like I know what I'm doing.
If you've been putting off video marketing because it seems too time-consuming, give this a try. You might find yourself suddenly becoming a "video person" after all.
