Perplexity AI Just Killed Google (Just Like Video Killed The Radio Star)
It's basically ChatGPT but with actual real-time sources that you can trust. Google is f****d.
Finding out about Perplexity AI and starting to use it daily has totally changed how I find anything online.
My first impressions - this tool is about to replace Google search for most people.
It definitely needs a bigger deep dive post, but until then here's a quick peek at why it's a big deal for us in marketing and how you can make the best of it.
Best Perplexity AI Use Cases For Marketers
🎓Quick research
Get direct answers with cited sources: No more going through irrelevant search results (looking at you, the latest Google algorithm update 👀). With Perplexity AI, you can get straight to the point and you can actually trust the information that it gives you (looking at you, ChatGPT with its hallucinated facts 👀)
Example: Searching for "best email marketing strategies" immediately gives answers from top marketing publications and expert blogs, along with direct links to the sources so you could easily go on a deep dive.
🎯 Better data with a more focused search
Focused searches: Use the "Focus" feature to narrow down searches to areas like YouTube or academic papers. It’s perfect for deep dives into specific topics.
Example: For the latest consumer behavior research, set your Focus to academic papers.
Better queries with Co-pilot: Co-pilot helps to sharpen your searches so you get exactly what you need.
Example: When looking into "SEO trends 2024", Co-pilot can help you narrow down searches to include only scholarly articles and case studies.
📚 Stay organized & create your personal knowledge base
Thread organization: Use Collections to organize your search queries and results. It works just like folders, making it easier to manage projects and collaborate with team members.
Example: Create a Collection named "Q4 Marketing Strategies" where all related searches, from holiday email campaigns to Black Friday social media plans, are all together.
Add custom prompts: Tailor each Collection with custom prompts to make sure that every search within it is aligned with your project's goal.
Example: For a collection dedicated to content marketing, set a prompt that focuses searches on content strategy, planning, and execution.
💼 Pro plan is probably worth it
Pro Plan perks: The paid plan allows unlimited Copilot queries (the free plan allows 5 for every four hours - and yes, I found that fact through a Perplexity search) and enhanced file uploads. This can be very helpful when doing in-depth marketing analysis, finding sources, writing new content, and also for bigger stuff like strategy development.
Example: Use the file upload to analyze competitor content strategies directly in Perplexity AI, getting insights on their approach and performance.
More ideas for using Perplexity in marketing:
Market research: Start by focusing your searches on scholarly articles to understand the theoretical parts of current trends, then shift to YouTube for practical, real-world applications.
Content strategy: Use Collections to organize research on various topics, from ideation through execution. Use Perplexity to create outlines or even generate content, so it's based on the latest and most relevant sources.
Competitor analysis: Leverage the direct answers feature to quickly see how competitors are discussed in various forums or publications, saving hours of manual searching. Just search for “user criticism of product X”.
Creative and graphic design: Use the image search functionality not just for inspiration but also to understand the visual trends dominating your industry.
